Integrative medical care, practiced with attention

I maintain a clinical practice in Chicago where I provide integrative medical care for patients seeking thoughtful, individualized treatment. Clinical work is an essential part of my professional life—it keeps my teaching and writing honest, and it keeps my thinking grounded in what actually helps people over time.

Patients come to my practice with complex concerns, long histories, and questions that haven’t been fully answered elsewhere. My role is not to rush solutions, but to listen carefully, assess patterns, and work collaboratively toward care that is realistic, responsive, and sustainable.

How I Approach Care

My clinical approach draws on biomedical medicine, acupuncture, and integrative frameworks, with attention to how systems interact rather than how symptoms present in isolation. I’m interested in how stress, nervous system regulation, food, environment, and lived experience shape health—and how care can support adaptation rather than simply manage crisis.

I value precision, but I also value context. Treatment plans are developed with an understanding of each patient’s goals, constraints, and capacity for change. Care is most effective when it is both clinically sound and meaningfully integrated into daily life.

What I Treat

I work with adults seeking integrative approaches to a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Chronic pain and musculoskeletal conditions

  • Stress-related and nervous system–mediated symptoms

  • Digestive and metabolic concerns

  • Sleep and fatigue

  • Hormonal and immune-related issues

  • Complex or persistent symptoms without a single clear diagnosis

This list is not exhaustive. Many patients seek care when symptoms span multiple systems or don’t fit neatly into a single category.

What to Expect

Clinical care begins with a comprehensive evaluation that allows time for history, context, and careful assessment. Appointments are structured to support meaningful conversation as well as treatment.

I don’t offer one-size-fits-all protocols. Care may include:

  • Acupuncture

  • Functional medicine–informed assessments

  • Lifestyle and food-based guidance

  • Integrative medical strategies tailored to the individual

Progress is assessed over time, with adjustments made as needed based on response, goals, and capacity for change.

Relationship to My Other Work

Clinical practice informs everything else I do. It is where ideas are tested, refined, and sometimes challenged. Teaching and writing benefit from the realities of patient care—and patient care benefits from the clarity that comes from teaching.

While speaking and education are a significant focus of my work, clinical care remains a place of direct engagement and responsibility.
